What to Get for an Iguana Cage

One of the most important things that you will need to get for taking care of your pet iguana is an iguana cage. That's because the cage your iguana will live in is going to need to be one that not only is large enough for it but can also handle its body temperature. It's an essential part of iguana care.

The size is the first part of the iguana cage to consider for iguana care. A typical iguana will grow to be about six feet in length. That means that you will need to get a cage that will be large enough for the iguana to fit in and be able to move around, especially over time when the iguana will start growing to a larger size. You may even need to put an entire room aside for your iguana. However, if you are not able to get a full sized cage you should at least prepare for the time when you are going to need one.

Second, you should look into the temperature of the cage that your iguana will be living in. Iguanas are cold blooded animals. The environment is used by an iguana for regulating body temperature. You'll need to create different temperatures in various parts of the cage. It also helps to use a source of heat in the cage for the iguana to be able to control its temperature in. Having a source of heat without light is also important for your iguana.

An iguana will need to live in an area with a high level of humidity to survive. Iguanas do not drink much and therefore can be dehydrated easily in areas without humidity. Humidity also helps to get the iguana to shed its skin with ease, as this is a natural part of the life of an iguana. You will need to have a humidity level for about sixty five to seventy five percent of the air in the cage.

The last thing to do for iguana care in terms of the cage you'll be using is to create a good source of lighting in the cage. UVA and UVB light will be needed for the iguana to stay healthy. UV light will be filtered out by the exterior of the cage though. This means that the iguana will lose the ability to consume calcium and will develop metabolic bone disease. You should use artificial UVA and UVB lights so that it will help to keep your iguana healthy, as these lights will help to simulate the conditions that the iguana would live in when in nature.

The iguana cage is more than just a place for your iguana to live in. It is a place where your iguana will stay healthy and be happy if you handle it right. By using the right size, temperature, lighting and humidity level in the cage you will be providing the best iguana care possible.
